The Orchid Review June news

"Donated by The Eric Young Foundation, Jersey (EYOF) the new Eric Young

Orchid Trophy is an innovative design.

Chris Purver of EYOF explains, ‘The Jersey artist Nicholas Romeril was commissioned

by the Foundation to create a physical representation of orchids, using

contemporary materials. The main trophy depicts a cluster of orchid seed, while

the individual trophy, which the recipient gets to keep, is a single seed. Inspired

by micrographs of various orchid seeds they’ve been produced from the artist’s

maquette using 3D printing, and are enclosed in glass bell jars.’

It was awarded for the first time by the RHS Orchid Committee in 2013 to Dave

Parkinson, whose Disas at Hampton Court Flower Show in July were deemed the

most meritorious group of orchids at any RHS show during the year".
